Prestigious awards for the hotel and catering industry at the Europa-Park Resort

Throughout its history, the Europa-Park Resort has received numerous awards and honours that recognise and reflect the outstanding quality, innovation and commitment at Germany's largest theme park. This overview summarises the most important awards the hotel and catering sector has received in chronological order.

2023: This year, the Parkscout Audience Award, one of the most important awards in the German theme park industry, set a record once again. With over 60,000 participants casting their vote this time, with the Europa-Park resort once again scored points with visitors. The two 4* superior themed hotels 'Krønasår' and 'Colosseo' achieved first and third place in the 'Most Popular Theme Hotel' category.

2023: As part of the 26th Busche Gala, presenting the renowned Schlemmer and Schlummer Atlas Awards, Thomas Mack was named Trendsetter of the Year. Since 1998, the editors have honoured and awarded personalities and companies that have made a pioneering contribution to the world of hospitality. The editorial team of the Schlemmer Atlas speaks of Eatrenalin as |one of the most exciting gastronomic experiences in the world”, going on to say “Thomas Mack, you are a true trendsetter, a pioneer and set standards as both a host and entrepreneur!”

2023: The Europa-Park Camp Resort was named TOP campsite 2023 by BeyondCamping. BeyondCamping is an independent camping and hiking magazine. Over 150,000 readers a month can look forward to the latest discoveries about the most exciting outdoor activities from all over the world.

2023: On 10th July 2023, for its twelfth ceremony, the industry award 'Tophotel Newcomer Award' was presented for the most outstanding new openings of the past year. The world-first restaurant Eatrenalin at the Europa-Park resort received the 'Special Prize for Experience Gastronomy' in the private hotel catering category, honouring the concept’s uniqueness. Fine dining, technical finesse with the 'Floating Chairs' and multimedia content all come together in Eatrenalin in an unrivalled way in the DACH region. The jury determined that the managing partner of Europa-Park, Thomas Mack, and the gastronomy expert Oliver Altherr, CEO of Marché International (2003-2024), have undoubtedly created a special innovation. From the professional Guest Journey at the very start of booking process, to an almost overwhelming multi-sensory experience with an outstanding eight-course menu, to the sophisticated automated processes - the innovative Eatrenalin gastronomy experience impressed the jury in many ways.

2023: On 2rd July, Champagne Laurent-Perrier presented the Hornstein Ranking 2023, which honours the best chefs from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tyrol at the Europa-Park resort. Located in the lighthouse of the 4* superior hotel 'Bell Rock', 'Ammolite – The Lighthouse Restaurant' under the direction of Peter Hagen-Wiest was ranked 33rd among the best restaurants in Germany with 90.5 points and two crowns. The results of the Hornstein ranking are based on the evaluation of current ratings from the market-leading restaurant guides, which are summarised according to their evaluation criteria and broken down according to a 100-point system. In this respect, the present Hornstein ranking is a calculated and uncommented cross-section of the relevant restaurant reviews in German-language publications.

2023: Booking.com, one of the world's largest digital travel platforms, presented the coveted 'Traveller Review Awards 2023'. At its annual award ceremony, the well-known internet portal honoured the most hospitable cities in the world, as well as the most hospitable cities and regions in Germany, among others. When it comes to the Federal Republic, the municipality of Rust and Germany's largest theme park landed on the winner's podium. The travel destinations were recognised for their outstanding hospitality. The ranking was based on more than 240 million verified reviews from real Booking.com travellers.

2023: The exemplary ecological balance of the Europa-Park Hotels was recognised with the 'DEHOGA Environmental Check, for which the six 4* superior hotels all received the gold rating. The 'DEHOGA Environmental Check' is aimed at hotels and restaurants; participation is voluntary. It is the continuation of the 'Energy Campaign for the Hospitality Industry' launched together with the Federal Environment Ministry in 2006. The certification is based on the evaluation of selected environmental indicators, with a catalogue of criteria that includes energy, water and waste production, as well as the food sector (e.g. regional, fair trade, organic).

2023: For the 15th time, Freizeit Verlag honoured the best family hotels in German-speaking countries with their prestigious Family Cup. The renowned award is presented by the travel portal meintophotel.de and the new 'Mein Tophotel' hotel guide 2023. The 4* superior hotel 'Krønasår – The Museum-Hotel' prevailed against the other nominated hotels, winning the prize for the 'Logis' category. According to the expert jury's verdict, the themed hotel sets standards in this category, with the furnishings representing the concept of a natural history museum in every respect and setting.

2023: The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) determined the most popular sights in Germany in an online survey of more than 25,000 travellers from around the world between September 2022 and June 2023. The result: The Europa-Park resort still occupies the top-ranked spot, making it the most popular travel destination in the Republic. 'We are very grateful to be so highly valued by our visitors in Germany. For us, this is a great confirmation of our attention to detail, our quality, innovation and the high level of service we provide for our guests. It’s the best thank you that we could receive, directly from our guests. Economically, Europa-Park has an impact on the entire region and all of Baden-Württemberg,' says Europa-Park owner Roland Mack. Since 2012, visitors to the GNTB website have been able to use this campaign to name the tourist destinations they consider particularly recommendable. Only international participants are counted. The entries result in a ranking of the top 100.

2023: On 4th April, the renowned Michelin Guide Germany 2023 star award ceremony took place in Karlsruhe, announcing this year's selection of the best restaurants. The selection of restaurants once again confirms the diverse offerings and the consistently high level of German gastronomy. During the ceremony, the 'Ammolite – The Lighthouse Restaurant' of the Europa-Park resort, located in the lighthouse of the 4* superior Hotel Bell Rock, was able to celebrate two Michelin stars for the ninth time in a row. Chef Peter Hagen-Wiest and his team have once again demonstrated a high level of diverse and inspired cuisine. The gastronomy team stands for exquisite cuisine far beyond the borders of the region with their unique concept that sets consistently high standards. The fine dining restaurant therefore continues to be one of the top gastronomic scenes in Germany and one of the ten 2* restaurants in Baden-Württemberg.

2023: The 4* superior hotel 'Krønasår' was awarded the Clean Sleeping Award for exemplary bed hygiene. The basis for this award is the HOTEL BED TEST, awarded by 'Schlafen Spezial'

2022: Since 2017, the trade magazine 'parkscout' has presented the Parkscout plus Award, honouring leading companies in the leisure industry in Europe in 15 categories. The 4* superior themed hotels 'Bell Rock' and 'Colosseo' are among the top 5 in the 'Best Theme Hotels' category.

2022: Marco Gerlach, sommelier and restaurant manager of 'Ammolite - The Lighthouse Restaurant', was voted one of the '50 Best Sommeliers' at the Rolling Pin Awards. This award is one of the most important in the catering and hotel industry.

2022: Marco Gerlach and Vincenzo De Biase were honoured at the 'Schlemmer Atlas industry meeting TOP50 Sommeliers Germany'. Gerlach was honoured in the Gourmet category and De Biase in the Gastronomy category.

2012-2022: Each year TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Awards honour popular hotels and theme parks around the world.

2021: Family holiday with a seal of quality! For the state 'Family Holiday' competition, Europa-Park, the Rulantica water world and the six 4* themed hotels of the Europa-Park resort were honoured with awards. The state competition is carried out by Tourismus Marketing GmbH Baden-Württemberg (TMBW) together with the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA) Baden-Württemberg.

2021: In collaboration with the data and analysis institute 'Statistica', the business magazine 'Capital' awarded the Europa-Park themed hotels with the highest possible rating – five out of five stars. More than 3,200 industry experts in management positions were surveyed for the study. The central aspects of the study were the areas of 'products and services', 'processes' and 'corporate culture'.

2020: On 3rd February 2020 in Berlin, Thomas, Michael and Ann-Kathrin Mack, co-partners of Europa-Park in Rust, were awarded with the renowned industry award 'Hotelier of the Year'. Thomas, Michael and Ann-Kathrin Mack are the eighth generation of the entrepreneurial family, responsible for the largest expansion in the company's 240-year history: the museum hotel 'Krønasår' and the water world Rulantica. The expansion of the resort, with an investment volume of around 200 million Euros, was completed on schedule, bringing Europa-Park along with it into a new era. The jury chairman Rolf Westermann, editor-in-chief of the ahgz - Allgemeine Hotel- und Gastronomie-Zeitung, justified the decision as follows: “With investments of around 200 million Euros, the eighth generation of the Mack family has set the decisive course for the coming decades. This requires foresight and the courage to take entrepreneurial risks.”

2019 - 2022: The 4* superior hotel 'Krønasår' carries the Viabono® award, which recognises particularly environmentally friendly management as well as the exemplary fulfilment of the Viabono® quality concept. As part of the certification, the key figures within the company are determined with regards to final energy, CO₂, water and residual waste, among other things.

2018 – 2025: The DEHOGA Environmental Check is a trademark for committed environmental protection in the hospitality industry, recognising companies that combine ecology with economy. The Europa-Park hotels have been awarded Gold, the best possible level.

2010 – 2024: For excellent comfort and the highest quality in the wellness area, the Europa-Park hotels received five out of five possible stars in the certification by Wellness Stars Deutschland GmbH.
